What football boots should I wear?

Trainers or astroturf boots work at every KickHub venue. Metal studs do not, and you will be turned away.

No particular shoes are required. Trainers, turf shoes and normal football boots all work at every KickHub venue. The only thing we do not allow is playing barefoot.

Turf shoes are what we recommend, because they are the most comfortable and the safest option on our surfaces. If all you own is a pair of trainers, come in those.

What works, by surface

Every pitch we use is artificial or hybrid turf, so the rules are simple.

Artificial turf, which covers Polo Football Park, OASIS, Soccer Pro On Nut, Soccer Pro Ratchada and The Kick Off Arena in Bali. Trainers are fine. Astroturf shoes, the ones with many small rubber studs, give the best grip and are what most regulars wear. Moulded firm-ground boots are tolerated but they grip harder than the surface wants, which is how ankles get turned.

Hybrid turf at Hybrid Football Field, a mix of real and artificial grass and the first Greeny Hybrid pitch in Thailand. Same rules, and moulded studs behave better here than on pure astroturf.

A word on metal studs. They are hard on artificial fibres and some venues object to them, so turf shoes or moulded studs are the safer choice. If metal studs are all you have, tell the organiser when you arrive rather than assuming.

If you turn up without boots

Polo Football Park and OASIS both rent shoes at the venue. Ask the organiser when you arrive.

What actually matters more than boots

Grip is not what stops most people enjoying their first game here. Heat is. Bring a second shirt for afterwards, because you will want it.

Water is on us. We buy it from the venue and it is built into the ticket price, so there is no need to carry any. Bibs and a proper match ball come with it.

In Bangkok every game also comes with electrolytes, goalkeeper gloves and music on the pitch. In Bali, at The Kick Off Arena, it is the ball, bibs and water.

If you happen to own one light shirt and one dark one, bringing both makes the organiser's life easier when teams get split. Nobody will mind if you do not.

Buying a pair

If you decide to buy a pair, look for astroturf shoes rather than firm-ground boots. They cost less, they last longer on these surfaces, and they are the most comfortable thing to run in for an hour on turf.
