HeadStart International School sits on Vichitsongkram Road in Wichit, between Phuket Town and Chalong. Its City Campus pitches are used for school football during the day and open to outside bookings in the evening, which is when everyone on the island plays anyway.
Seven a side, artificial turf, floodlit, with covered pitches as well as open-air ones. That last part matters between May and October: a downpour moves the game under a roof instead of cancelling it. What it also has going for it is availability. While the commercial complexes on the east side fill up from four in the afternoon, this one usually has room.
Why we play here
KickHub runs games on the Phuket Town side of the island, at 7 Soccer Club in Talat Nuea, TX Park in Rassada and here. HeadStart is the one that suits anyone coming up from Chalong or Rawai rather than crossing to the east coast after work, and the one we lean on when the others are full.
Games are seven a side, teams get picked on the night, and you book a single spot rather than bringing a team. Come on your own, that is how most people do it.
Turning up
Parking is on the school grounds, which is rarer than it sounds on this island. Astroturf boots or trainers, no metal studs. Bring more water than feels reasonable, and turn up ten minutes early so sides can be sorted before kick-off.
